California USA Wrestling is now accepting applications for review and selection of 12-14 High School. Jr & Sr. Student Athletes to travel to different communities in Japan, stay with families and wrestle against Japanese teams. You will experience local culture and sights in between competition. We will travel to Japan between June 26th to July 6th 2017. to experience the Japanese culture and wrestle international local high school teams in Freestyle dual matches.
All selections must be approved by the California Cultural Exchange Committee because the quality of the student athlete is the most important factor. Ideally the selection is based upon wrestling skills and being a good citizen.
The selected team members must be prepared to wrestle freestyle internationally and experience the Japanese culture for 10 days at one of the following 8 UWW weight classes.
46 - 50 kg - 101-110 lbs. 74 kg - 163 lbs.
55 kg -1 21 lbs. 84kg - 185 lbs.
60 kg -132 lbs. 96 kg - 211 lbs.
66 kg -145 lbs. 120 kg - 264 lbs.
The cost of the trip is approximately $2,850, which covers airfare, some lodging, meals and transportation. Remainder of expense is taken care of by the host families. Please bring money for souvenirs and personal purchases.
There will be a camp June 17th & 18th, before leaving San Francisco on 6-19, more details to follow.
We will be flying in and out of San Francisco International Airport, (SFO). Wrestlers will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Bay Area.
For anyone interested, please contact me at (925) 237-6118 or MDWA@att.net to express interest in attending the trip. A completed application package must be submitted by March 1st, 2017. Upon acceptance, three payments of $950 will be due on March, April and May 15th . Each wrestler is expected to obtain their own Passport and USA Wrestling Card.
I am looking forward to working with and ensuring the selected California high school wrestlers have a positive educational and wrestling experience that they will never forget.
