California USA Wrestling is a national leader in empowering girls and women to participate in the sport of wrestling. We have more women registered as athletes than any other state in the country. In 1997 a California girl became the first female national champion in a co-ed bracket ( see press release).
The State Office encourages all regional associations to offer women's divisions in their tournaments.
We also recognize the imPORT 67,180,89,29,130,225 omen make to the sport by serving as officials. Women play a major role in the administration of most wrestling tournaments by serving as pairing officials, responsible for the overall flow of bouts. More women are also becoming mat officials, serving as important role models for young women athletes.

At the national level, USA Wrestling has a Women's Wrestling Committee dedicated to promoting involvement at all levels. Leroy Evans, State Chairman for California USA Wrestling through 2000, is a member of that committee. For more information contact the state office, or the national committee:
